REGISTRATION opens on Thursday, May 17th, 2018, at 9:00 a.m.
The study of the Jhanas will be offered to an experienced and advanced level of meditators only. All retreats are considered silent retreats with the exception of Dhamma talks, question and answer periods including optional teacher interviews.
For those who would like to take them, the Lifetime Precepts are offered at this retreat.
Bhante Dhammaratana will be instructing those who will be taking the Lifetime Precepts. When you arrive at Bhavana to complete your registration, please let the Retreat Coordinator know you will be participating in the Lifetime Precepts Ceremony. If you are undecided, during interview sessions, you may speak with a senior monastic about any questions you may have about the process.
If you would like to take the Lifetime Precepts (not to be confused with the regular monastery precepts), be sure to bring a set of white clothes.
For an explanation of the meaning of the precepts and their practice, read Bhante G's article Taking the Eight Lifetime Precepts. To read about the history of the precepts at Bhavana and what the ceremony is like, read The Seeds of Dhamma Take Root.
Participation is restricted to 'Intermediate' and above meditators i.e. who have atleast attended two or more short retreats at Bhavana Society or two retreats each lasting three full days at other centers. Recently, we have updated our website/registration module. Each new account begins with 'Beginner' level and after review of each registration profile for provided information on 'past retreat attended', we assign a 'participation/experience' level. In interim, if you receive a registration error such as participation level mismatch between your account and the requested retreat. And, if you think this is an error, please email office manager to review and update your account profile. We appreciate your understanding, and request two business day to reviews your message by our small team of staff and volunteer to respond. We regret any inconvenience caused due to this transition
Please note, if a Retreat Registration becomes active during holidays or weekends, we may not be able to ‘get back to you’ about your retreat registration request until the next business day. Thank you for your understanding.
On-site registration/check-in opens at 3:00 p.m. in the Dining Hall. Please arrive to allow enough time to complete registration here and settle in before the retreat begins. All retreats end after lunch on the last day.
Although every retreat is slightly different here is a typical retreat daily schedule.
