Three Characteristics of Existence Retreat
There are three characteristics, three marks, in all things animate or inanimate. It is because of not understanding this we grasp things as if they are mine, me or myself. The three characteristics are impermanence, unsatisfactoriness and soulless respectively. Vipassana means seeing these three. When one sees these three it is called 'seeing things as they really are.' The purpose of Buddhist meditation is to see things as they really are. In retreat we talk and practice in order to understand these three characteristics of existence. All retreats are considered silent retreats with the exception of Dhamma talks, question and answer periods including optional teacher interviews.
Please note, if a Retreat Registration becomes active during holidays or weekends, we may not be able to ‘get back to you’ about your retreat registration request until the next business day. Thank you for your understanding.
On-site registration/check-in opens at 3:00 p.m. in the Dining Hall. Please arrive to allow enough time to complete registration here and settle in before the retreat begins. All retreats end after lunch on the last day.
Although every retreat is slightly different here is a typical retreat daily schedule.
