“Whatever grounds there are for making merit productive of a future birth, all these do not equal a sixteenth part of the liberation of mind by loving-kindness. The liberation of mind by loving-kindness surpasses them and shines forth, bright and brilliant.”

Vesak Celebration Day

Sunday, May 14 to Sunday, May 14, 2017

Register

Teacher: This is not a retreat.

Vesak is the commemoration of the three main events in the life of the Buddha Gotama, all of which fell on the full moon day of the fifth month: his birth, enlightenment, and his final passing away. Buddhists assemble for this commemoration on or near the full moon day in May to observe the precepts, listen to dhamma, and offer Dana to the sangha.  It is a national holiday in some Buddhist countries.

At Bhavana the day starts with a chanting dedication to the Buddha at 9:30 am.  After that the lay people offer food to the monastics around 11:00.  As soon as everyone is finished eating there is a Dhamma talk given to the public.

No registration is necessary unless you would like to stay overnight.
If you would like to spend time at Bhavana before or after Sunday, please use the Visit Registration form.

Registration opens at 3:00pm in the Dining Hall. Please arrive to allow enough time to complete registration here and settle in before the retreat begins. All retreats end after lunch on the last day.
Although every retreat is slightly different here is a typical retreat daily schedule.
