Participation is restricted to 'Intermediate' and above meditators i.e. who have attended at least two or more short retreats at Bhavana Society or two retreats each lasting three full days at other centers.
The Bhavana Society's website/registration module was updated to accommodate mobile devices. If you were a registered user of the Bhavana’s previous website and try to log in with your old username and password, it will not work. We kindly ask that you do not phone the office, but use the Contact Us form; or, send an email if you have a problem re-registering noting the issue encountered and your contact information directly to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Initially each new account begins with 'Beginner' level and after review of each registration profile for provided information on 'past retreat attended', we assign a 'participation/experience' level. In interim, if you receive a registration error such as participation level mismatch between your account and the requested retreat. And, if you think this is an error, please email office manager to review and update your account profile. We appreciate your understanding, and request two business day to reviews your message by our small team of staff and volunteer to respond. We regret any inconvenience.
On-site registration/check-in opens at 3:00 p.m. in the Dining Hall. Please arrive to allow enough time to complete registration here and settle in before the retreat begins. All retreats end after lunch on the last day.
Although every retreat is slightly different here is a typical retreat daily schedule.
For those who would like to take them, the Lifetime Precepts are offered at this retreat.
Bhante Dhammaratana will be instructing those who will be taking the Lifetime Precepts. When you arrive at Bhavana to complete your registration, please let the Retreat Coordinator know you will be participating in the Lifetime Precepts Ceremony. If you are undecided, during interview sessions, you may speak with a senior monastic about any questions you may have about the process.
If you would like to take the Lifetime Precepts (not to be confused with the regular monastery precepts), be sure to bring a set of white clothes.
For an explanation of the meaning of the precepts and their practice, read Bhante G's article Taking the Eight Lifetime Precepts. To read about the history of the precepts at Bhavana and what the ceremony is like, read The Seeds of Dhamma Take Root.
Registered users who have signed in will see a "Supporting Document" field below with a PDF document link to download "Lifetime Precepts Chants" that includes a Pali pronunciation guide and the "Request for the Three Refuges and the Eight Lifetime Precepts" in both Pali and English. (It is an excerpt from the Bhavana Vandana.)
